We always say that our students have two choices when they leave Rockley, one is to continue on to university and the other is to go straight in to employment and use the RYA Instructor qualifications they have gained to go in to work or an apprenticeship. Across our students, everyone is different and everyone has different aspirations and desires to achieve on our courses and so it’s fair to say, our students often choose very different paths, some going to university, some on to work, some to an apprenticeship and some also go travelling or take a gap year. What is common amongst our students is that they love sport and the outdoors and whatever they choose, this is often the theme running through their future choices.

UCAS stands for University and Colleges Admissions Service and this is the service that oversees the university entrance process. Each student that wants to go to university must build up UCAS points which then correspond to which courses they can then apply for. Some courses require higher UCAS points than others and therefore students that want to apply for a course with higher UCAS points, they need to gain higher grades on our courses. If you are keen to go and do a course that is maybe more practical and has lower UCAS points for entry, you may well be able to gain more average grades on our courses. Either way, our philosophy is that life is for learning so aim big and push yourself to get the best grades possible. This way you can pick the course you apply for and do the course you really want to do, rather than having to settle for a second-choice course with lower entry grades.

Our Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport and Physical Activity (Outdoors) is designed to allow students who want to go on to higher level studies to get the grades they need to do this. It also gives learners the skills, knowledge and understanding of the sport and physical activity sector for employment. It is a course that really gives the best of both worlds. A vocational programme which is diverse and interesting, without any exams yet with a full UCAS points equivalent to 3 A Levels. The UCAS points that have been awarded for this qualification are as follows: Pass – 48, Merit – 96, Distinction – 144, Distinction* - 168

Our students choose to go on to a variety of degree programmes. Here are some popular choices:

Plymouth Marjon University run the BA (Hons) Outdoor Adventure Education. Entry on to this programme requires 96 UCAS points and therefore a Merit profile on our Level 3 Extended Diploma course. https://www.marjon.ac.uk/courses/outdoor-education-degree/

University of Worcester run the BSc (Hons) Outdoor Adventure Leadership and Management. Entry on to this programme requires 96 UCAS points and therefore a Merit profile on our Level 3 Extended Diploma course. https://www.worcester.ac.uk/courses/outdoor-adventure-leadership-and-management-bsc-hons

University of Chichester run BA (Hons) Physical Education and Sports Coaching. Entry on to this programme requires 96 - 112 UCAS points and therefore this would require a student to have much more of a Distinction profile on our Level 3 Extended Diploma course. https://www.chi.ac.uk/chichester-institute-sport/our-courses/undergraduate/ba-hons-physical-education-pe-and-sports-coaching
