What to do during lockdown

Although we are all struggling with time away from our beloved water, there is still heaps going on to keep you active and to help get you ready for when you get back on the water. Rockley's Training & Development Manager, Liz McMaster gives us a few ideas of what activities are out there for you to join in with.

Stay active

To ensure we are ready to hit the ground running in terms of our fitness there are many fantastic videos popping up all over youtube from some great resources. It is important to ensure you are working within your own limits but you could use this time not only to build strength, but also to improve your cardiovascular system.

If running has not been your thing up until know why not talk up one of the many couch to 5km programmes - https://www.nhs.uk/live-well/exercise/couch-to-5k-week-by-week/

If general fitness is your goal why not join in with Joe Wicks PE sessions which are live every week day at 9am on you tube (or you could do later in the day on catchup.) https://www.youtube.com/user/thebodycoach1

This is also a great opportunity to work on your flexibility with either some yoga or Pilates. Local fitness and Physiotherapy companies to Poole have joined together to create Better together in Dorset and are offering a range of content from Hiit sessions, to Pilates and a range of other wellbeing resources which are free on Facebook live and youtube - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCCnUjC28DGuqONQ3Kgk7aXA

The benefits of a school residential trip for teachers and group leaders >

Teachers are amazing! However, with increasing pressures on workload and such a busy job, why take the extra time to organise a school trip? Well, because believe it or not there are many benefits for you, as well as the students.

Preparing young people for their first residential trip (for the youngsters) >

Every young person is unique - some come across as confident, energetic leaders, whilst others shy away from the limelight to work away in the background. Here at Rockley, we celebrate the achievements of all our students and nurture and mould their skill set. However, no matter how outgoing or confident a young person may be - going on a school trip away from home for the first time, can be scary and daunting which is why we want their first trip away to be a fantastic one!

We're making waves!
