What makes a residential GREAT?

There are so many elements that make a residential trip ‘great’! What’s our recipe for success…here we look at five ingredients we think are essential in making a great residential.

1. Safe and fun adventures

It is vitally important that every one of the students on a Rockley residential has loads of fun, in a safe and controlled way. The nature of Outdoor Adventurous activities is that they are exciting and challenging, however we manage those risks under the guidance of the governing bodies and highly qualified experts. Each of our centres is inspected every year and safety is absolutely the number one priority at Rockley.

"Thank you to all the team for an amazing week. Safety, skills, fun… all our children are happy and exhausted!!" Kings Park Academy

2. Enthusiastic, knowledgeable staff

The life and soul of every trip are our amazing Rockley team! As well as all instructors being fully qualified with National Governing Body (Royal Yachting Association) certificates including first aid and safeguarding, they also bring with them as huge sense of energy, enthusiasm and fun. The team work hard to ensure every student is having a fantastic time and learning lots, all in a safe and friendly environment. We’ve said this time and time again, but our staff truly are our greatest asset!

“The instructors really have changed lives this week and we couldn’t be prouder.” Andy Watts, Kingsmill School

“Staff great as usual, always helpful and available at all times.” Twynham School

3. Creating new, memorable, life-changing experiences

For many students, a residential trip will be the first time away from home and this in itself is a great achievement. Here at Rockley we provide opportunities for young people to make life- long friendships, try things they never thought they would ever do and develop skills which may change their life.

Years later teachers and instructors come back to Rockley as they remember what a great time they’ve had on such an unforgettable residential.

“Another fantastic trip has been completed and many memories made for our students that will last forever. I know this because I have spoken to children (now adults) who have been on the trip many, many years ago.” British School of Brussels

4. Comfortable accommodation

We all know the importance of getting a good night’s sleep, so after a busy day, action packed day a comfy bed is important! Most students find that after an active day filled with fresh air, they fall asleep as soon as their head hits the pillow!

We love the freedom and flexibility of our camp sites which give the opportunity to relax under the stars, connecting with nature. Our forest locations are perfect for sleeping under canvas, but with the added luxury of a soft mattress, standing head room and full toilet and shower facilities.

“Toilets / Showers spotless through out!” Westley Middle School

5. Excellent food

After a day on the go a hearty meal is a must! At Rockley we cook all our food fresh on site using local produce where possible. We have a variety of options and can cater for all dietary requirements. Having a balanced, nutritious meal is important as fuel for the next day so we make sure all our meals are both delicious and healthy!

“The food has been excellent and there has always been something for everyone regardless of their level of fussiness” Cranborne Middle School
