Which school did you come from?

I was previously at The Arnewood School in new Milton.

How did you hear of the Rockley BTEC?

I heard of this course from friends at my old school who had previously been to Rockley.

Did you consider another BTEC or A-Levels?

I did about a year of A-levels (Photography, Media and Psychology) at Arnewood Sixth Form but I didn’t feel they were right for me which is when I started looking into Rockley. The course seemed like something I would really benefit from and that I would enjoy more.

Why did you decide to do this particular course?

I have always enjoyed being on and around the water. Also while going on a Rockley residential activity trip to France a few years ago, I felt that the atmosphere and the relationships between all the instructors and team was really nice and it made me want to be part of something similar.

Is the course as you expected?

Yes, although many people said they didn’t expect as much course work as we are given.

Had you done any water activities / qualifications prior to doing the course?

I had done some sailing and kayaking prior to starting, however I don’t have any qualifications. This was one of the main reasons for doing the course - it gives me time to do the activities I enjoy.

What have been the most challenging parts of the course so far?

I’m really enjoying the course - the week in France was definitely one of the highlights so far and I'm really excited about our summer work experience over there. Even with the large amounts of coursework and close deadlines, our practical sessions make up for it!

Your Practical Instructors are all ex-BTEC students - do you think is this beneficial in any way?

I think this is really helpful - having been where we are, they know when and how to motivate us, like when it’s cold! Also it’s helpful as they are closer to our age - we already have a close bond with them.

Your first week was spent out in France - what was this like?

The week out in France helped us all get to know each other and our practical team a lot better. When I got back from France I had become a lot more confident and coming in on that first Monday was alot easier!

Do you know what your plans are after the course?

At present I’m not sure where this will take me however I hope to end up working with Rockley.
