Success Story - Sophie Walker

A former student at Twynham School in Christchurch, Sophie opted to study the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport and Physical Activity (Outdoors) course at Rockley College with the plan of pursuing a career teaching in the outdoor industry.

“My dream is to become an RYA Dinghy Instructor so that I can teach kids around the world how to sail.”

Like many students, Sophie has not always been a huge fan of exams so this course was perfect for her - the practical and coursework elements combined with the fact that it is equivalent to 3 A-Levels really appealed to her.

Self-described as “organised, motivated and determined,” these factors enabled Sophie to get on with her coursework so that she could really focus on her skills on the water. She also credits the Rockley teachers and practical instructors for their “ongoing support” which enabled her to “stay on track” and “achieve such a high standard of work.”

“I would definitely recommend this course to other students because it takes the stress away from final exams. If you are considering Rockley College, be prepared to go out on the water in any conditions and be up for giving things a go - you’ll be leading your peers in many sporting sessions. And if you don’t have that confidence now, with the support around you, this will all become second nature!”
