The Rockley Academy BTEC Level 3 Sport (Outdoor Adventure) is a two-year full time course that is equivalent to three A-Levels and represents the ultimate vocational course. The BTEC Level 3 combines theory units, practical activities and employer valued, professional National Governing Body (NGB) qualifications. This unique and dedicated course has been designed to enable candidates to build a career in the outdoor and leisure industry specialising in watersports.

On completing the two-year BTEC Level 3 course there are several options open to you, you can choose a direct path to University, foundation degree or employment into the outdoor adventure industry. The choice is yours.

Don’t just take it from us Jess and Toby have both completed year one of their BTEC studies and have spent this Summer working out in France.

Jess Hamilton

I went to St Edwards School in Oakdale. During the BTEC course so far I have gained my Start Sailing, Start Windsurfing, Powerboat Level 2 and 1st Aid qualifications. I am also a Young Scout Leader and climbing instructor.

The course has been amazing, you’re not just sat in a classroom, you get the experience out on the water as well as doing the coursework. If I could recommend this course I would say; if you enjoy the outdoors, if you enjoy the water, if you enjoy getting involved and working with children, then this course is better than anything.

My aim is to be a dual qualified instructor (Dinghy and Windsurf Instructor) by the time I finish the BTEC so I can go out to France on seasons with Rockley. After that I’d like to travel a bit more whilst working on a superyacht.

I went to Twynham School to do my GCSE’s. I’ve spent a lot of time on the beach growing up with my family with several trips to the shores of South France. These experiences have led me to work for a watersports company in Mudeford as well as work as an RNLI lifeguarding.

In year one I have gained my 1st Aid, Powerboat Level 2 and Start Sailing. I have taken particularly well to windsurfing and have qualified as an RYA Start Windsurf Instructor in the six months since joining the BTEC.

The ‘Alternative Pursuits for Outdoor Adventure’ module has given me the opportunity to experience further outdoor sports including land based activities, and use transferable skills from my time surfing in snowboarding.

After the course I have the opportunity to use my RYA qualifications to help gain employment anywhere in the world. This is a time I am very much looking forward to. Although I haven’t considered university at this time, I will have my BTEC Level 3 qualification in the bank which I can use at any time I need to.

New course starts this September, come join us to get a real education, real qualifications, a real future.
