Confidence is just one of the many life skills that sailing teaches young people. In the video, leading education expert, Professor Bill Lucas talks about confidence in learning and states that great learners are confident, but confidence in learning means you have a 'can do' attitude and that you know that it is ok to make mistakes, and learn from them.

The annual Can Do Festival and Dorset School Games events that are run at our Poole Park Centre are a successful example of how sailing can provide a confident learning experience for young people of all ages. It is also reflected across the Rockley Adventure multi activity school and group trips.

Ringwood School PE Teacher, Jonny Owen has strong feelings for the benefits of outdoor learning: "I'm a massive believer in learning outside the classroom. Students don't really know what they can achieve until they are pushed to their limits and for some students their limits are nowhere near touched within the four walls of a classroom. It is not until they are faced with sailing or watersports where they realise what they can achieve.

"We've had some students who aren't the most water confident and they've learnt how to sail, or kayak or stand up paddleboard. I feel everyone has the right to see what they can do and the opportunities that a Rockley trip offers ticks all those boxes."
