Hello Annie

Annie graduated from Rockley College this year with a Distinction star after completing her Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport (Outdoor Adventure). Following the course, she worked the summer season at two of Rockley’s three centres - Buddens Activity Centre and Rockley Point, instructing both on land and on the water.

Having never done any sailing before attending the college course, Annie took full advantage of the additional optional training on offer which meant she qualified with her RYA Dinghy Instructor and trained towards her RYA Windsurfing Instructor qualification. She is due to attend the RYA Windsurfing Instructor course this winter.

As to whether Annie enjoyed the course and being at Rockley College – “Yeah, I really enjoyed it! I would have struggled being in a classroom all day. This is a great balance.”

Why choose this Apprenticeship?

So, why an Apprenticeship? “I’m not ready to stop doing something that I really enjoy. This is a good next step in the right direction and I am keen to build on my qualifications. I want to be here for as long as it is creating opportunities and I’ll see where it goes from there.”

Hello Finn

Finn graduated this year after his 2-year Diploma course, also gaining his RYA Dinghy and Windsurfing Instructor qualification. He chose this college course specifically because of the watersports offering and the location on the beach – something that no other college offered.

Like Annie, Finn embraced all the optional training – “I love watersports – it’s my passion and if you want to succeed, you’ve just got to put yourself out there and work for it. If you really want it, then sign up for everything - plus it’s a lot of fun as well!”

Why choose this Apprenticeship?

Finn applied for the apprenticeship because it will give him the opportunity to “work and learn at the same time.” He is keen to upskill as much as he can. His passion and commitment is clearly why he was selected! He also plans to spend the next 12 months improving on his windsurfing and getting out with the current staff whenever he can!

Hello Verity

Verity is fresh from her A-levels having studied Sociology, English language and PE at Ringwood School. She has spent a lot of time on the water with the Sea Scouts and confesses that sailing and kayaking are “her thing.”

Why choose this Apprenticeship?

Verity did plenty of research when it came to her ‘next steps.’ “I didn’t want to go to uni and felt that a hands-on apprenticeship was something that I would really benefit from. I enjoy everything outdoorsy, and this opportunity which included watersports really appealed to me.”

Verity has plans to pursue a career in this industry and is considering going to university to study Sports Coaching after the apprenticeship programme. She considers this the perfect interim.
