Leap for Success - Your Future

We are looking forward to welcoming this year's Leap for Success Scholarship students, after its launch in 2015. As the new pupils prepare for their course we hear from past students on why they chose the course.

February 2017

This month our second year of Leap for Success Scholarship students will be arriving at our Rockley Point Centre to begin their ten week, intensive, RYA instructor training.

The Scholarship is aimed at both our key returning staff and to the wider world of individuals who are looking at starting their career in the watersports industry and want to up-skill and become qualified RYA Instructors with a passion and who want to work with Rockley in the future.

Here we hear from past students Lauren and Matt on why they chose the course and what they have gone on to achieve.

NAME: Lauren Jelley
COURSE DATE: January 2015

Lauren has previously completed two seasons with Rockley as land staff before joining the scholarship programme to gain her dingy instructor qualification, Lauren is now a RYA Senior Dinghy Instructor and will be working at our Azu Rivage, France centre this coming summer.

“There are so many opportunities available within the Rockley across all of the centres both in the UK and France. Working for Rockley Watersports has been the best experience of my life and I am now a fully qualified watersports instructor.”

NAME: Matt Dilley
COURSE DATE: January 2016

Matt joined the Leap for Success Scholarship last year after wanting to do more with his passion for windsurfing.

“I have been windsurfing for five years and I love being outdoors and on the water. I was working as a paint sprayer in a motor body shop since I was 16 and started looking into becoming a windsurfing instructor.

“The Scholarship has been brilliant, you get so much out of it as I am now a windsurfing instructor and dinghy instructor and I get to be on the water every day. Now that my course has finished, I am working in France, the lake at La Rive is so nice and just being on the water every day is great.”
