A very different team challenge!

Over 36 weeks ago at Bournemouth Airport we (well actually Doddsey) excitedly came up with the idea of setting ourselves a very special and different fitness challenge.

Will Murray Rockley La Rive Centre ManagerIn celebration of our 40 years in business and in an aim to get outdoors and be more active we started the '40 for 40' challenge – complete 40 miles each week for 40 weeks, due to finish one day before the anniversary party!

So far thousands of miles have been clocked up and thousands of fine British pounds have been raised for Company charity, Julia’s House across a range of events, including the Bournemouth Triathlon, Dorset Rotary Bike Ride, London Triathlon and Bournemouth Half Marathon.

Alex Dodds Rockley Le Lac Centre Manager

We have run, cycled, sailed, swam, walked, surfed, golfed, skied and more. There have been those that have cycled to work, joined the local Park Run and Keiron has been walking to the pub!

Regular weekly, motivational emails from Operations Director, Rob has kept everyone going while he keeps a running tally of everyone’s miles. His best nuggets of motivational advice include –

“…there is still plenty of time to get the miles back over the magic 40 average and crown yourself in glory on November 11th when this all comes to an end – to quote Dr Zeus ‘and will you succeed, yes indeed, 98 and three quarter % guaranteed…’ Today is your day, your mountain is waiting so get on your way.”

L-R Rob, Pip, Emma and Jen

And this gem – “You don’t need money, don’t take fame. Don’t need no credit card to ride this train. It’s strong and it’s sudden and it’s cruel sometimes. But it might just save your life. That’s the POWER”

It may be the inspirational words of Rob ringing in our ears or our combined passion for sports and pushing ourselves that have produced some fantastic achievements this year. Just a few include Company MD, Pip Woods completing the Olympic distance, AJ Bell London Triathlon and Rob sailed to victory in Plymouth to become the 2016 J24 European Champions with his team.

We have just over three weeks left and are determined to end on a high. For some it has been no hard yard to complete the miles but for many there has been some extra effort to be active and count down the miles. That is what this challenge has all been about, if we can do it so can you - #40for40
