Choosing Rockley College, we believe will be the best decision you’ve ever made! Our courses are unique and as such, you are guaranteed something special. Here’s our top 7 reasons!
All our courses are based at our Rockley Point centre. As a working watersports centre, a course with us feels very different to a school environment. With excellent facilities and equipment your new school is our watersports centre and your new playground is our beach! What’s not to love?!
One of the best things about our courses is that we prepare you for an exciting future with our courses preparing you to progress to university or to go into employment and start a career as an RYA Instructor. Whatever you choose, you will have the option, with the skills, knowledge and qualifications to do both.
All our courses allow our students to access our optional instructor training programme and complete over £2000 worth of RYA Training and Qualifications to prepare you to work as an RYA Instructor in Watersports. In this part of the course you will cover the RYA syllabus in Sailing, Windsurfing, Powerboating and First Aid and you will also do various inhouse qualifications in Paddlesports, Mountain Biking, Orienteering, Raft Building etc.
Everything we do at Rockley is based on real life situations. Being based at a working watersports centre, you will be immersed in a work environment. This means it’s easy for us to make our units realistic and relevant to life as an Outdoor Instructor and relevant to work, developing our students understanding much further than if they were being taught concepts in a classroom.
There isn’t a week that goes by at Rockley when a class isn’t off in the minibus somewhere, be it the Purbecks, Moors Valley, Upton Country Park or to one of our local dry ski slopes or activity centres. We believe in applying learning and we do this by getting on the water, getting outside and by doing. We also organise more formal trips abroad starting in September with a multi activity trip to France and then later in the year the annual ski and snowboard trip.
Work experience is a bit different at Rockley. We strongly believe in our students learning through doing and they can work alongside our instructors throughout the course. All students also complete a period of work experience in the summer term and placements are predominantly in France at one of our 3 Centres. There are not many courses where you get to complete a placement abroad are there? This is often a highlight of the course for our students.
At Rockley our timetable is different to School. You won’t be in every day and when you are in, you’ll be in for a full day rather than needing to travel in for one lesson here and there. This helps you manage your time more effectively at home to complete your coursework and saves you money on travel as you’re only travelling in when you need to.
