Level 3 Outdoor Instructor Traineeship

SF-40

This course is designed specifically for students that are aged 18 and are keen to work in the industry and get fast tracked to be an instructor. This is perfect for someone that may be considering a gap year and wanting to do further training and travel. Students that complete this are often joining us from other Sixth Forms or Colleges after completing A Levels or another Level 3 programme. This course is a practical based course and as a trianeeship is designed to prepare you for work in the Outdoors Industry.

Entry requirements: 4 GCSEs at grade 4 including English or Maths

Assessment: Combination of coursework and practical assessments

This is a very practical based course and covers all you need to know to work as an Outdoor Instructor. You will cover a diverse range of topics such as First Aid, Health and Safety, Customer Care, Manual Handling, COSHH, Fire Safety, Child Protection and Safeguarding. You will be fully trained in how to do your role as an Activity Instructor learning all our Operational Procedures and develop an understanding of the Rockley Delivery Model and Rockley Values.

You will also learn how to take part in and hopefully work towards leading the following activities:

Waterbased - Sailing, Windsurfing, Paddleboarding, Canoeing, Kayaking, Powerboating, Bell Boating, Raft Building etc

Land based - High / Low Ropes, Climbing, Abseiling, Mountain Biking, Walking, Orienteering, Rifle Shooting, Tunnelling, Tomahawk Throwing, Archery, Team Building, Expeditions, Bushcraft etc

This programme is designed to give you the opportunity to develop as an outdoor instructor and experience the lifestyle of working as an instructor in one of our centres, be that in the UK or France. Effectively, it’s like a structured Gap Year in a supportive environment and all on your doorstop with little to no costs.

Optional Instructor Training Programme

As part of this course, you will also have the opportunity to sign up to further optional training and complete a range of National Governing Body (NGB) and In-house qualifications in the activities we offer. As you will only be at Rockley for a year on this course, you will need to choose areas to focus on unless you have extensive previous experience in Outdoor Adventure. Depending on your experience, ability and interests, you will have the opportunity to work through the RYA syllabus in Sailing and Windsurfing and also gain various inhouse qualifications in Paddlesports, Mountain Biking, Orienteering, Raft Building etc.

What Next?

After this programme you could continue in the industry and gain employment as an Outdoor Activity Instructor or carry on your studies in sport at university or maybe complete an apprenticeship.
