Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport and Physical Activity (Outdoors)

This is our flagship course and most popular. Covering 18 units, it really covers the depth and breadth of the skills, knowledge and understanding of the sport and outdoors industry. Advanced Level 3 Extended Diplomas are two year courses where you study one subject.  These courses are equivalent to 3 A Levels and carry UCAS points so are suitable for progression to university.

Entry requirements: 4 GCSEs at grade 4 including English or Maths

Assessment: Combination of coursework and practical assessments

This is a very practical based course and prepares you to work in the Sports and Outdoor Adventure Industry. It covers the following units:

Year 1 – Skills Builder Year

This year is about developing your skills and knowledge and we call this your Skills Builder year. In this year you will cover topics like Exercise, health and lifestyle, Principles & Practices in Outdoor Adventure, Practical Team Sports, Skills for Water-based Activities, Skills for Land-based Activities and Work Experience in Sport.

Year 2 – Instructor Ready

This year is about getting you ready for work and qualified as an instructor. This year is very applied and focusses on lots of practical skills like Alternative Pursuits, Sports Injuries, Equipment and Facilities, Sports Coaching, Expeditions and Leading Land Based Activities and Leading Water Based Activities.

Instructor Training Programme

As part of this course, you will have the opportunity to sign up to further optional training and complete over £2000 worth of RYA Training and Qualifications to prepare you to work as an RYA Instructor in Watersports. In this part of the course you will cover the RYA syllabus in Sailing, Windsurfing, Powerboating and First Aid and you will also do various inhouse qualifications in Paddlesports, Mountain Biking, Orienteering, Raft Building etc.    

What Next?

After this programme you could continue with your studies in sport at university or an apprenticeship. If you have taken part in our optional Instructor Training Programme you will have all the instructor qualifications you need to instruct a range of water sports and be employable as an RYA Instructor or Outdoor Activity Instructor.
