Whether you’re just finishing Year 11, about to finish Year 13 or somewhere in between, our courses are designed specifically for you and allow you to combine your passion for Sport and the Outdoors with a full-time education, whilst also gaining valuable RYA qualifications, skills and experience. With three full time FREE fully funded courses available to 16 – 18 year olds, the choice is yours and at Rockley your college course is as unique as you are!
We recognise that our students choose us as they want something different and our unique Outdoor Adventure courses offer students a truly vocational course which embeds works experience and extra qualifications. These courses allow our learners to develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours to succeed not only at sixth form but in life, with direct skills and qualifications for a job and employment and the entry requirements to progress on to university.
We offer either a Level 2 Diploma or Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport and Outdoors or an Outdoor Activity Instructor Apprenticeship, where you will participate in loads of practical, train as an RYA instructor, go on trips and complete substantial amount of work experience in the South of France or the UK.
For those of you that want something slightly different to our normal college courses, we also offer a Fast Track programme designed specifically for students who are already 18 and who have maybe just finished sixth form somewhere else. Our Fast Track course is for you if you want to move into the industry as an instructor by studying a course combined with RYA Instructor Training. This runs much more like a structured gap year programme.
All our courses are based at our Rockley Point centre in Poole. As a working watersports centre, a course with us feels very different to a school environment and with excellent facilities and equipment, your new college could be our watersports centre and your new playground could be our beach!
Our courses attract students from Hampshire and Dorset with students travelling from far and wide across the counties. Served by Hamworthy train station, we attract students from a large catchment area with students travelling from Weymouth, Dorchester, Poole, Bournemouth, Christchurch, Southampton and Winchester to access our truly unique courses.
Our Education team includes 15 experienced and dedicated staff who are focused on helping every student become the best that they can be and help them progress in their future in Sport and Outdoor Adventure.
We have been offering sixth form courses and specifically Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport since 2009. These courses were established with the aim of increasing opportunities for school leavers in Poole to get involved with Rockley and to train as a Watersports Instructor whilst also completing a sixth form course.
As a company that employs over 200 seasonal staff each year to work across our centres in France and the UK, and our sixth form courses soon become the perfect answer for finding new staff to join #TeamRockley each year. As a very successful staff training programme, we’ve not looked back and since starting, we have increased the sixth form courses available and opportunities each year.
All of our programmes are sport and outdoor based so be it the Level 2 Diploma, Level 3 Extended Diploma or the Outdoor Activity Instructor Apprenticeship, you will study these sorts of areas and guess what, they are all coursework based and no exams whatsoever, phew!
If you like being active, then these are the courses for you covering a full range of watersports, land activities, alternative pursuits and various others:
Work experience is when the fun really begins! Picture yourself abroad in the sun delivering to our school groups at one of our 3 French Centres on the South West French coastline.
With at least 2 weeks allocated to this experience, this really gives you the opportunity to develop and grow not only as a person but as an instructor. The soft skills you’ll develop on this experience will set you up for life with our key focusses being Communication, Interpersonal Skills, Teamwork and Collaboration, Flexibility, Adaptability and Problem Solving to mention just a few.
Not keen on France, that’s fine, you can stay in the UK and work at either of our centres in Poole.
