Teaching and Learning

The course is taught through both classroom based lessons and practical sessions. Each week you will have a day and a half in the classroom learning all the elements of the course. All lessons are fully supported by resources, PowerPoints and worksheets which are all available on our Virtual Learning Environment to help you really achieve your best.

The remaining two days each week of the programme are practical, with one day compulsory and one day the optional instructor training. The compulsory days of the course focus on Outdoor Adventurous Activities covering Land-based, Water-based and Alternative Activities. You will take park in sailing, windsurfing, kayaking, canoeing, powerboating and stand up paddle boarding. On land, you will go on expeditions, walking, mountain biking, team building, initiative exercises, navigation, take part in orienteering and have the opportunity to go climbing. For Alternative activities, you will have the opportunity to go surfing, coasteering, take part in archery, bush craft, high ropes or go skiing / snowboarding.

As this is a sports course, you’ll also get to play sport. As part of the programme we play a range of sports such as dodgeball, handball, rounders, beach cricket, tag rugby, football and ultimate frisbee. On all these sports your ability is not important, it’s more about taking part and having fun rather than being the next Ronaldo!

How will I be assessed?
